Cumbria U18 Sept 24 - Jan 25

William has played rugby for Kendal RUFC since the age of five years old and progressed up to where he is currently playing for the senior colts.

William was part of the Cumbria DPP programme up running aged 14 to 16. Joining HomeGrown Sports development in April 2022 William began 1 to 1 sessions with Ben before joining Garry's sessions when Ben left to go travelling in September. William has worked hard with his foundations around balance & coordination while relating them back to rugby specific skills. William is a passionate Scotland supporter and loves to have in-depth discussions about how good Scotland compared to England even resulting in Garry having to do 10 press ups every 10 mins during a session after a Calcutta match!

His hard work has progressed him to being an important part of the Cumbria U17s and 18s squad starting (Being in line to start) 5 out of 6 games across the 2 age groups and gaining 6 appearances. This has catapulted Williams confidence over the last couple of months He is currently part of Kendal RUFC new Player Pathway Programme. In January 2024 William also made his senior rugby debut coming off the bench for Kendal 2nds against Eagle.

William Patterson

"The one-to-one sessions have meant that I have been able to focus on my individual needs as a rugby player – to look at my strengths and weaknesses and focus on my technical development. HGSD have empowered me as a player – mentally and physically, and helped build my confidence on and off the pitch. I was encouraged to try as a flanker for county – this is my most favourable position and where I thrive, so being given the opportunity to play here and develop my skills as a flanker has been incredible."
